Madame Fortune Taylor Walking Tour

Time: 10:00 am til 11:30 am

Description: A former slave, business owner and community leader who amassed more than 30 acres of land along the eastern bank of the Hillsborough River in the 1800s, Fortune Taylor was a true Tampa pioneer.

New this fall, the Madame Fortune Taylor Walking Tour take you through original homestead of Madame Taylor, the namesake of Tampa’s Fortune Street and the recently re-named Fortune Taylor Bridge.

History Center walking tours take place outdoors. Guests will walk approximately six block on public rights of way. Pre-registration is required.

Tours meet at the John F. Germany Public Library, 900 N. Ashley Dr., Tampa, FL 33602.

Archaeology Works: Hunting Tech

Time: 11:00 am til 12:00 pm

Location: Weedon Island Preserve, 1800 Weedon Dr NE, St Pete

Description: Description
How would you put dinner on the table if you were living in prehistoric Florida? Archaeologists look at how artifacts like stone tools change through time to learn about advances in ancient hunting technology. Join us for a talk with archaeologists from the Florida Public Archaeology Network to learn about these changes as well as the atlatl, a prehistoric hunting tool used in Florida.

Recommended for all ages; kids must be accompanied by an adult.
