Continuing Education Class: Native American Mounds of Tampa Bay

Time: 10:00 am til 12:00 pm

Location: Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church, 2902 W Fletcher Ave, Tampa, FL 33618

Description: Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) presents a continuing education class entitled "Site-Seeing": Native American Mounds of Tampa Bay for adults aged 50+

This class is instructed by FPAN West Central's own Becky O'Sullivan

With the guidance of an archaeologist, explore the history of Florida's native peoples and the amazing communities they created around Tampa Bay. After an introductory session, tour a different archaeological site each week and hear the stories behind these enduring places. Visit Safety Harbor Mound in Safety Harbor, Weedon Island Preserve in St. Petersburg, and Portavant Mound in Emerson Point Preserve, Palmetto.

Appreciate the value of preserving such sites.

Archaeology and Rising Sea Levels: Global and Local Perspectives

Time: 6:00 pm til 7:00 pm

Location: Selby Library, 1331 First St, Sarasota

Description: Dr. Uzi Baram of the New College Public Archaeology Lab will present on the threat of rising seas to local heritage and archaeological sites to the Time Sifters Archaeological Society monthly meeting.
