Strangers in a Strange Land: Picturing Florida’s History Through Art

Description: Florida’s rich visual mythology spans centuries, attesting to the vivid imagination of artists who captured the essence of an exotic landscape, as well as the flamboyant narratives that fuel Florida’s reputation for eccentricity. Dr. O’Connor “looks for Florida” among the images that tell our state’s story. “Who” is Florida? And how do we discover her “real” face? O’Connor, Prof. Emerita of Art History at Santa Fe College, has published widely on history, and is the author of the new American River: Tributaries, a fictional trilogy.
