Guided Paddle on the Hillsborough River

Time: 8:30 am til 11:00 am

Location: Hillsborough River State Park, 15402 US 301 N. Thonotosassa, FL 33592

Description: Take a leisurely 90 minute paddle down the Hillsborough River and learn about the natural history and natural communities that make the Hillsborough River watershed so unique and important. This volunteer-led tour will be enjoyable for individuals, families, and groups.

You can bring your own kayak or canoe, or rent one from the park's concession.
What to bring: drinking water, snacks, hat, sunscreen, and bug repellent. No pets or alcoholic beverages allowed.

Archaeology Works: Shells

Time: 10:00 am til 12:00 pm

Location: Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center, 1800 Weedon Dr NE, St Pete

Description: Archaeologists study ancient shells to not only learn about the diets and tools of prehistoric Floridians, but also the environments they lived in. Learn to identify different shell types from around the Tampa Bay area and the ways archaeologists use them to learn about the past.

Walk Tampa: The Ybor City Story

Time: 10:30 am til 12:00 pm

Location: Tours meet in front of the Cuban Club, 2010 N Avenida Republica De Cuba, Ybor City, 33605

Description: Join the Tampa Bay History Center for a guided tour of historic Ybor City. This 90-minute walking tour is led by a History Center-trained docent and focuses on the founding and development of Ybor City in the late 19th century early 20th century. You’ll tour Tampa’s only National Historic Landmark District and learn about the people, social life and work culture of early Ybor. You’ll visit mutual aid societies, the Ybor Cigar Factory and other key landmarks, and hear the stories behind one Florida’s oldest and most unique communities.

Tours meet in front of the Cuban Club, 2010 N Avenida Republica De Cuba, Ybor City, FL 33605.

Participants will walk a total of approximately one mile along public sidewalks and brink streets. Please be sure to wear comfortable shoes and attire for walking outside. Guests might also want to bring bottled water on the tour.

Fort Foster Candlelight Event

Time: 6:00 pm til 9:00 pm

Location: Fort Foster State Historic Site 15402 U.S. 301 N. Thonotosassa, FL 33592

Description: Fort Foster Historic Site brings the holiday season on the Florida Frontier to life! Visitors follow a lantern-lit trail through the military fort and Seminole camp. Along the way, guests will encounter musicians, living history scenarios, and refreshments.

A battle reenactment on Friday, December 9th, and Saturday, December 10th, will take place after 8:00 pm. Come witness the drama as the Seminoles attempt to burn the bridge crossing the Hillsborough River, while soldiers and militiamen will try to defend it. This living history program will truly take you back in time.

The Fort Foster State Historic Site is located adjacent to Hillsborough River State Park on U.S. 301 North, 9 miles north of Fowler Avenue and 6 miles south of Zephyrhills.

Fees: Ages 13 and up, $5.00 donation. Ages 12 and under are FREE.

All proceeds benefit the Hillsborough River State Park Preservation Society.
