Guided Paddle on the Hillsborough River

Time: 8:30 am til 11:00 am

Location: Hillsborough River State Park, 15402 US 301 N. Thonotosassa, FL 33592

Description: Take a leisurely 90 minute paddle down the Hillsborough River and learn about the natural history and natural communities that make the Hillsborough River watershed so unique and important. This volunteer-led tour will be enjoyable for individuals, families, and groups.

You can bring your own kayak or canoe, or rent one from the park's concession.
What to bring: drinking water, snacks, hat, sunscreen, and bug repellent. No pets or alcoholic beverages allowed.

Phillippi Estate Park 100 Year Anniversary Celebration

Time: 10:00 am til 4:00 pm

Description: Join Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources as it celebrates the 100-year anniversary of Phillippi Estate Park with a series of free events on Nov. 12

Events and attractions planned for the 100-year anniversary include:

Dedication of Prodie Shell Midden interpretive signage, 10-11 a.m. The new signage describes the archaeological studies conducted along the Phillippi Creek and their findings. Learn about the rich history of the Phillippi property, from the Archaic Period 5,000 years ago to the Manasota encampment on the creek's shores 2,500 to 1,200 years ago, to Seminole Indian Wars of the 1800s.

CIRCUS! photography show, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: See a long-lost treasure of vintage color and black-and-white photos featuring the daily routines of Ringling performers on the backlots of the circus.

Circus Arts Conservatory Sailor Circus Academy student performances, 12:30 and 1:15 p.m. Located east of the mansion rose garden.

Sarasota Concert Band performance, 2-3 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs to the mansion's back lawn and hear the songs of yesterday, from circus music to John Philip Souza and ragtime.

Polpo's Wood Burning Pizza Wagon, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Walk Tampa: The Ybor City Story

Time: 10:30 am til 12:00 pm

Location: Tours meet in front of the Cuban Club, 2010 N Avenida Republica De Cuba, Ybor City, 33605

Description: Join the Tampa Bay History Center for a guided tour of historic Ybor City. This 90-minute walking tour is led by a History Center-trained docent and focuses on the founding and development of Ybor City in the late 19th century early 20th century. You’ll tour Tampa’s only National Historic Landmark District and learn about the people, social life and work culture of early Ybor. You’ll visit mutual aid societies, the Ybor Cigar Factory and other key landmarks, and hear the stories behind one Florida’s oldest and most unique communities.

Tours meet in front of the Cuban Club, 2010 N Avenida Republica De Cuba, Ybor City, FL 33605.

Participants will walk a total of approximately one mile along public sidewalks and brink streets. Please be sure to wear comfortable shoes and attire for walking outside. Guests might also want to bring bottled water on the tour.
