Re-Placing Fort Brooke Archaeology Day at the Tampa Bay History Center

Time: 12:00 pm til 2:00 pm

Location: Tampa Bay History Center, 801 Old Water Street, Tampa

Description: Join archaeologists from FPAN at the Tampa Bay History Center for an event that celebrates the unique history and archaeology of Downtown Tampa. Hands-on activities and displays will be available for visitors of all ages to experience during this fun event. Historical re-enactors from different eras in Tampa’s past will also be on hand.

The festivities are meant to celebrate a new exhibit: Re-Placing Fort Brooke. This exhibit located in the Tampa Bay History Center’s Touchton Map Gallery, uses cutting-edge technology to uncover the stories of Tampa’s earliest residents. Presented in partnership with FPAN, visitors to the exhibit will be able to see the fort and the evolution of downtown Tampa as never before. In addition to early maps of Tampa's Garrison District and artifacts recovered from the site in the 1970s and 1980s, the exhibit will feature digitally-rectified overlays of the original fort.

Activities and displays in Cotanchobee Park, just outside the Tampa Bay History Center, are free and open to the public. To see the Re-Placing Fort Brooke exhibit you will need to pay for admission to the museum. See http://tampabayhistorycenter.org/ for more details.
