Haunted Woods

Time: 6:00 pm til 10:00 pm

Location: Hillsborough River State Park, 15402 U.S. 301 North Thonotosassa, Florida 33592

Description: The purpose of the Haunted Woods is to give our park visitors a fun and safe place to face their fears once a year. In the old days, Halloween was a time that people faced the fear of the long winter nights and a variety of woodland demons. We provide those demons to give our visitors a chance to face them. Remember: The rules of the Haunted Woods are simple. Don't touch the creatures, and they won't touch you. Please join us-- Bwa ha ha. Proceeds will benefit the Hillsborough River State Park or current Fort Foster Historic Site projects.
Fees: $5.00 per person donation

Spirit Voices from Old Manatee

Time: 7:00 pm til 9:00 pm

Location: Manatee Village Historical Park, 1404 Manatee Avenue East, Bradenton

Description: Your rendezvous with the past awaits … Manatee Village Historical Park is pleased to present Season III of Spirit Voices from Old Manatee. This year’s popular living history production brings new characters - Polly Parker (May-de-lo-yee of the Bird Clan) and June Adams - to the limelight with insights into the haunting tales of the settlers of the Manatee lands. Shows will be staged at the 1850 Old Manatee Burying Grounds and Manatee Village Historical Park in Bradenton, Florida.

Purchase tickets early, audience space is limited!
Advance tickets purchased on or before October 9th: $15 per person; remaining tickets, if available, purchased after October 9th or at the door are $17.00 per person. Patrick Smith's Florida IS a Land Remembered

Time: 7:00 pm til 8:00 pm

Location: Sudakoff Center at New College, 5845 General Dougher Place, Sarasota

Description: One Book One Community is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with the announcement of the 2014 One Book at special events in October featuring the multi-media show, “Patrick Smith’s Florida is A Land Remembered,” honoring the first One Book that was read and discussed in 2003, Smith’s “A Land Remembered.”
Patrick Smith’s son, Rick Smith, will make the presentation that shares his father’s real-life, extraordinary experiences with Florida pioneers, the Seminoles, migrant workers, “‘river rats” of Mississippi, the social injustices of the South, and the challenges of the present. Sarasota County’s shows kick off Rick Smith’s second tour through Florida.

“His tour last year received rave reviews with hundreds in attendance at each presentation,” said Barb McDonald, outreach coordinator for the Sarasota County Library System.

The shows are free, and open to the public. Pre-registration is required due to limited seating.
