R. LYNN WHITELAW was the founding director  of the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art at St.  Petersburg College and held that position for 13  years. In February 2011,Mr.Whitelaw stepped down as  director to become the first established curator at the museum in order to  concentrate his efforts before retiring on the rapidly expanding collection.  Mr. Whitelaw is a graduate of Florida State  University with both bachelor and master degrees  in the History and Criticism of Art. He  worked at Hillsborough Community College  for 15 years in teaching and administrative  positions and in 1990 became curator of education  at the Tampa Museum of Art before  taking the position at the Leepa-Rattner Museum  of Art in 1998. He is curating an important  exhibit of the Inness father and son that is  expected to achieve national recognition.

Description: Bartolome de las Casas, Protector of the American Indians is the topic of this month's lecture by Lawrence Clayton, Ph.D. The "face" of the conquest in our part of the world is one of greed and unsavvory characters such as Conquistadors Narvaez, de Soto, and Ponce de Leon. One man, a Dominican friar stood up for justice and became the universal protector of the Indians during the early 1500s. 7 to 8 p.m. Free, advance registration requested.
