National Public Lands Day at Robinson Preserve
Time: 9:00 am til 2:00 pm
Location: Robinson Preserve, 1704 99th St NW, Bradenton
Description: Join Manatee County Parks and Natural Resources Staff and partners for a Volunteer Opportunities Fair and National Public Lands Day celebration at Robinson Preserve!
Local partners and government agencies will be tabling in the butterfly garden to share volunteer and recreation opportunities in your local parks, preserves, and public lands.
We will also be unveiling new interpretive signage for Genbu the gopher tortoise's exhibit and our crawl-through gopher tortoise burrow activity, sponsored by the Gopher Tortoise Council.
Stop by with your family and friends, walk through the Valentine House and butterfly garden, and learn about ways YOU can serve and play on public lands.

Famous Flights: The History of Aviation in St. Pete and Weedon Island
Time: 10:30 am til 11:30 pm
Location: Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center, 1800 Weedon Dr NE, St Pete
Description: St. Petersburg has a long and rich history of aviation, including the well-known first commercial flight in 1914. But in addition to this accomplishment, the airport that functioned on Weedon Island during the early 20th century also led to momentous firsts for flight in St. Pete. Join us for a talk from Will Michaels, President of the 2014 Flight Board and member of the Florida Aviation Historical Society on both the historic 1914 flight and the Grand Central Airport at Weedon Island.
This talk is recommended for adults and youths ages 14+.

Living History Saturday at the Tampa Bay History Center

Description: Living History Saturdays at the Tampa Bay History Center
Each month, a living history re-enactor will tell stories, show artifacts, and give a short presentation on a different Florida-related theme. Discover what life at sea was like for an 18th-century privateer, listen to a young couple navigating changing social attitudes during the 1960s, or hear about the homefront in 1940s Tampa during WWII.
August 24th - A Pirate’s Life: Tales from Florida Waters
Both male and female pirates lived normal lives – they ate, drank and entertained themselves at sea. Rob and Anne Jacob describe the real life of pirates during piracy’s “golden age.”
