Heritage Monitoring Scouts Archaeology Paddle

Time: 9:00 am til 12:00 pm

Location: Weedon Island Preserve Cultural and Natural History Center, 1800 Weedon Dr NE, St Pete

Description: Join archaeologists from the Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN) as we paddle to a few archaeological sites within the Weedon Island Preserve. We will check on the archaeological sites as part of the Heritage Monitoring Scout (HMS) Program, a public engagement program focused on tracking changes to heritage sites at risk, particularly those impacted by climate change in the form of erosion and sea level rise.

No HMS experience is required, but you must bring your own kayak or canoe and provide your own paddle and PFD. Participants should wear a closed-toe wading shoe (old tennis shoes, keens, scuba booties). Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, cover up, sunscreen) is recommended. Be sure to bring water and a snack as well.

Recommended for ages 10+ and children must be accompanied by adults.

See link to register. For questions, please contact Kassie Kemp at kkemp@usf.edu
