Description: Tidally United 2018 Dialogue: Heritage as Social Action: What We Gain from Heritage and What We Might Lose from Rising Sea Levels – featuring Vicki Oldham & Uzi Baram

Vickie Oldham, Founder & Project Director for both Looking for Angola and Newtown Alive will be joined by Uzi Baram, Professor of Anthropology at New College of Florida and founding Director of the New College Public Archaeology Lab.

Heritage matters for Newtown, Sarasota, and Florida but is also under stress. Stress from those who forget or want to forget the past, from development that replaces the historic with the new, and from rising sea levels. Focusing on the challenges for the coastal communities of Sarasota and Manatee counties, the dialogue will explore the opportunities created by engaged heritage work and the implications of storm surge, increasingly powerful hurricanes, and rising sea levels both locally and globally.

This event is free and open to the public. The dialogue presentation will be followed by a reception in the lobby of Sainer Pavilion.
