Manatee Settlement Tour

Time: 3:30 pm til 5:30 pm

Location: 1312 2nd Ave E off 14th Street in Bradenton, 3 blocks North of SR64

Description: Meet volunteers from Reflections of Manatee, Inc. at the Manatee Mineral Spring, where the Village of Manatee was born. Hear fascinating stories of early settlers and tales of the little-known history of the region. Costumed guides lead this tour that takes you to the Curry Houses Historic District and on a walk through shaded streets laid out as the Village of Manatee in the 1840s. As you peek inside the 1860 Curry homes you will learn about this fascinating family as well as the Black Union Soldiers who headquartered here when they occupied the Village in 1864.
• Costumed guides lead this slow paced 2 hour walk.
• Meet at 1312 2nd Ave E off 14th Street in Bradenton, 3 blocks North of SR64.
• Come early and read the 12 interpretive signs within the grounds where you will learn about the settlement of Angola, a run-away slave refuge known to be on site in the early 1800’s, the Seminoles and Branch Fort during the 3rd Seminole War time period, and all those who followed making Bradenton and Manatee County what it is today.
