Archaeology Works: Food

Description: The foods we eat say a lot about who we are; one family’s comfort food might be another’s worst nightmare! Just like other artifacts that archaeologists find, food remains can say a lot about past people’s diet, environment, and culture. Learn how archaeologists study tiny bits of food to learn about people in the past, then try your hand at identifying different animal bones and seeds that might have made up an ancient meal.

Living History Reenactment: Rendezvous at Fort Foster
Time: 10:00 am til 3:00 pm
Location: Fort Foster State Historic Site, 15402 U.S. 301 N. Thonotosassa, FL 33592
Description: History will come alive during this annual historical event at the Fort Foster State Historic Site. The event is a living history reenactment featuring military, Seminole, and civilian reenactors, sutlers, traders and craft demonstrations. An opportunity to purchase period merchandise and refreshments is available to our park visitors.
Please note: This weekend event will offer ongoing daily live firing demonstrations and a skirmish between the Seminoles and military after 1 p.m.
The Fort Foster State Historic Site is located adjacent to Hillsborough River State Park on U.S. 301 North, 9 miles north of Fowler Avenue and 6 miles south of Zephyrhills.
Public admission for this special event is a $5 donation to Hillsborough River State Park Preservation Society per person, ages 5 and under is free.
All proceeds benefit the Hillsborough River State Park Preservation Society.
