The 46th Alafia River Rendezvous

Time: 9:00 am til 4:00 pm

Location: Homeland, FL

Description: Alafia River Rendezvous - The Florida Frontiersman Inc.

Do you love history, music, and good family fun? Then this is the event for you! In January each year, the members of the Florida Frontiersman host the largest living history event in the Southeast.

There will be vendors for food, primitive lifestyles, and souvenirs. Come and see fine demonstrations of historic skills such as flint knapping, broom making, cannon firing, blacksmithing, soap making, and weaving and portrayals of life before 1840. Enjoy a full program of music, featuring both locally and nationally recognized performers. There will also be specialized tradesman and general characters from our nation's history.

This annual event for the Florida Frontiersman provides many scholarships to local high school students as well as intensive learning opportunities during the event.

Footprints on the Land- Guided Hike

Time: 9:00 am til 10:30 am

Location: Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center, 3940 Keystone Rd, Tarpon Springs

Description: Discover the many “footprints” that have been left on the land during this casual and entertaining hike. Native American, early settler and modern developers have changed our native habitats, find out how a preserve like Brooker is a place where those habitats can be restored for the health of the whole county.
All ages are welcome. Children under the ages of 16 must be accompanied by an adult and those younger than 6 may find this hike challenging.

Guided Hike Information:
Volunteer Hike Guides will meet participants in the lobby of the Education Center 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. We strongly suggest all hikers visit the restroom before we begin as there are no facilities along the trail.

-Guided hikes are under a mile in length, much of which is on unimproved, uneven sandy trails
-Please wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, sneakers or boots
-Insect repellent (bug spray) is strongly recommended in summer months
-Bring plenty of drinking water and a snack
-A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen are also recommended
-Pets are not permitted
-No smoking is allowed
-Trained volunteers will guide the hike

4th Annual Suncoast Orienteering Event

Time: 10:00 am til 3:00 pm

Location: Oscar Scherer State Park, 1843 South Tamiami Trail Osprey, FL 34229

Description: Test out your map and compass skills at the 4th Annual Suncoast Orienteering Event! Meet at the Legacy Trail Parking Area. All participants must report back from their course by 3pm.

Five different length courses including an instructional one mile 'map hike' course for people to learn about map and compass and land navigation. For those who prefer their recreation a little more advanced and competitive choose one of the other courses from two to ten miles in length.

​Maps will be supplied. Compasses available for rent.

Register at the Legacy Trail parking area.

Registration fees for Florida/Suncoast Orienteering Members $6

​All others $9 per individual or group with one map.

Extra maps $2 each.

Electronic timing stick rental for advanced courses: $5.
