More than just Empty Space? Integrated Geoarchaeological Investigations of a Plaza

Historically, plazas are utilized as spaces for cultural expression, daily interactions between members of the community, economic exchanges, and discourse of all types. They also serve as a symbolic space, critical to the formation and maintenance of cultural identity while also embodying social and political relations. For this study I employ ground penetrating radar and magnetometry, as well as microartifact and sediment chemical analysis to allow me to reconstruct the possible activities which were undertaken in the plaza at the Crystal River site.
