Alafia River Rendezvous

Description: Alafia River Rendezvous "Bridging the Gap with Our Ancestors" - The Florida Frontiersman Inc.

Do you love history, music, and good family fun? Then this is the event for you!
We invite you to step into the past! Attend the 2016 Alafia River Rendezvous, a pre-1840 living history encampment. There will be vendors for food and primitive merchandise. Come see period artisans and portrayals of life before 1840. Enjoy a program of music and demonstrators that include flint knapping, broom making, cannon firing, blacksmithing, soap making, weaving, Daniel Boone, and many more. This annual event for the Florida Frontiersmen helps provide scholarships to local high school students as well as other educational and learning opportunities.

Archaeology on Tap

Time: 4:00 pm til 5:00 pm

Location: Gaspar's Grotto Patio, 8448 N 56th St., Tampa

Description: Dr. Diane Wallman will be speaking. Diane will discuss developing research that involves the application of archaeological methods and data to investigate modern phenomena. In particular, She will discuss her research into the continuing legacies of colonialism, and the emergence of a 'new' colonialism in the Caribbean and West Africa. This research aims to integrate ethnohistory, historical archaeology, ethnoarchaeology and zooarchaeology to understand localized impacts of climate change on artisanal fishing communities.
