Florida Conversations: Florida & America in the 1920s

Time: 6:00 pm til 7:30 pm

Location: Tampa Bay History Center, 801 Old Water Street, Tampa, FL

Description: Some of the greatest economic and social changes to take place in the U. S. occurred in the 1920s … and Florida found itself smack in the middle of this phenomenon. The transformation of the country’s cultural and commercial fabric was occurring everywhere, influenced by a variety of factors including immigration, the Red Scare, racial violence, the growth of wealth disparity — which caused great upheaval to the current systems and mores. Then toward the end of the 20’s tragedy struck with the onset of The Great Depression, sweeping many people in all walks of life into poverty, misery and loss.

Please join David Colburn, director of the Bob Graham Center for Public Policy, and former provost and senior vice president of the University of Florida, and Gary Mormino, History professor emeritus at USF St. Petersburg, and currently scholar in residence at the Florida Humanities Council, for a fascinating and refreshing look into the dynamic decade that was the 20s.

Florida Conversations is free and open to the public. It is underwritten by the TBHC Endowment Fund at USF with media sponsorship from WUSF Public Broadcasting.
