Wedgwood: Tradition and Innovation

Description: A lecture by Wedgwood scholar Anne Forschler-Tarrasch, Ph.D. Birmingham Museum of Art’s Marguerite Jones Harbert and John M. Harbert III Curator of Decorative Arts, will be offered to the public on Sunday, May 4th at 2 pm in the Music Room.
Dr. Forschler-Tarrasch will talk about Josiah Wedgwood and the history of the Wedgwood factory in England, founded in 1759. She will discuss Josiah’s background and his rise from a modest Staffordshire potter to one of the richest men in England. Anne will highlight the variety of products and innovations he made that both responded to and set the pace for late 18th and 19th century taste. The lecture will address the influence of the Wedgwood brand through the twentieth century.
