Location: LDS Church, 9016 Fort King Road, Dade City, FL 33525

Description: Using Historical Maps in your Genealogy Research

By: Rebecca O’Sullivan

When paired with other sources of genealogical data, historical maps can be a powerful tool to connect with generations past. But where can you find them, and what do all the strange symbols they contain mean? Rebecca O’Sullivan, archaeologist and the Outreach Coordinator for the West Central office of the Florida Public Archaeology Network at the University of South Florida, will discuss the ways different historical maps such as Sanborn Fire Insurance maps, Plat maps, and Coastal Survey maps can be used in your research. She will talk about the many digital and paper sources for these maps, as well as how to locate the map you need, and the possible information about your ancestors it might contain.
