Archaeology Works: Bones

Description: Skeletons aren’t just spooky decorations to put up around your house at Halloween, to archaeologists they are also important windows into the past. Just like other artifacts that archaeologists find, bones can say a lot about past people’s diets, activities, and general health. Learn to identify different bones from the human body, as well as how archaeologists study them to learn about people in the past.
Recommended for all ages.

Florida Maritime Museum Re-Opening!

Time: 1:00 pm til 4:00 pm

Location: Florida Maritime Museum, 4415 199th Street West, Cortez, FL

Description: The Florida Maritime Museum (FMM) has been closed for a month to undergo some revamping, but now we're ready to reopen and celebrate!

The museum’s grand opening will include the premier of the completed children’s room, and scavenger hunt. Some of the museum’s content has been expanded to explore Florida’s greater maritime history, while other sections focus more closely on the personal stories Cortez has to share.

We invite you to come see the changes, and experience your heritage as it has been shaped by water. The Museum’s grand opening will take place on Saturday, October 5th at 4415 119th Street West, Cortez, FL 34215. Enjoy complimentary light refreshments and live music from 1pm – 4pm and kids’ activities all day. Admission to this event and to the museum is free, although donations are appreciated. Hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 9 am – 4 pm.
