Description: Lunch and Learn with Florida historians and authors Gary Mormino and Ray Arsenault and Real Florida, Tampa Bay Times columnist and author Jeff Klinkenberg

These well known and popular Florida historians and authors explore local and regional immigration. Gary Mormino, co-founder of the Florida Studies program at USFSP with Ray Arsenault and an expert on the social history of modern Florida, discusses the journey stories of Ybor City. Recently featured on Oprah discussing his book on the Freedom Riders, Ray Arsenault discusses the African-American experience, and columnist Jeff Klinkenberg reflects on northerners who have journeyed to Florida.

The Smithsonian exhibition Journey Stories at the Tarpon Springs Cultural Center explores the powerful tales of how we and our ancestors came to America and to the place we now call home. The exhibit runs through July 5.

Discover Prehistoric Florida

Description: Brief Description of Show: Learn about Florida’s past peoples in this fun and educational program for kids. People have lived throughout Florida for thousands of years, but the only way we know about them is through archaeology and the clues they left behind. Archaeologists from the Florida Public Archaeology Network at USF will give a presentation on what it was like to live in prehistoric Florida through time, complete with real artifacts and replicas of tools that ancient Floridians would have used to survive.

Appropriate Ages for Show: Elementary (grades K-5)
