DeSoto County Pioneer Day
Time: 9:00 am til 3:00 pm
Location: DeSoto Veterans Park on State Road 70 just west of Arcadia
Description: Pioneer Day offers family fun of all kinds. Special and traditional Florida foods--such as swamp cabbage and strawberry shortcake--are available. A “Discover History” hands-on area is FREE for children and includes old-fashioned toys and games, cane pole fishin’, washing with a a scrub board and wash pot, a pitcher pump, writing with a dip pen, orange juicin’, and more. Demonstrators show off their skills in basket-weaving, black-smithing, butter-churning, candledipping, quilting, soap-making, spinning, woodworking, and other crafts.
Clubs, churches, and other organizations display their history. The Suncoast Dulcimers--a hammered dulcimer group; the Fiddle Crabs--an old-time string band; Barney and Penny Meese; and Lee James entertain along with legendary characters Arcadia Albritton Coker and James Mitchell “Acrefoot” Johnson--plus a frontier shoot-out at noon. Animals, antique engines, vintage automobiles, a classic fire truck, Florida authors and artists--all showcase Florida’s unique heritage and history.
The Society welcomes everyone to join in the fun--as a demonstrator, participant, vendor, or volunteer!

Archaeology Fest

Heritage Days Open House at Manatee Village Historical Park

Description: Free Admission & Parking … Saturday, March 16, 2013 from10 am – 3 pm
Walk Back in Time and enjoy a leisurely day among moss draped oaks and see life as it was in another era. Visit Manatee Village Historical Park anytime during Heritage Days Open House festival hours, there is something of interest for all ages. This year’s Open House features world famous entertainers, novel exhibitions as well as the usual lineup of heritage artisans, interpreters and craft vendors.
Bob and Sheila Everhart, world-wide performers of America’s Old Time Music will be here playing their hits with a Florida flair.
Tin Can Tourist Vintage Trailer & Motor Coach Club: will be on hand to tell the history of the original Tin Can Tourists in Florida and explain their they impact on tourism and economy.
The 2013 Heritage Days Open House lineup also includes: demonstrators in the Fogarty Boatworks and the blacksmith shop, a beekeeper, heritage artisans, costumed interpreters, quilters, potters, soap makers and other arts, crafts and food vendors. Visitors can also explore landmarks from 1860 – 1913, “Old Cabbage Head” and the Whistle Stop Gift Shop.

Green Frog Moon Festival
Time: 10:00 am til 5:00 pm
Location: Sacred Lands, 1700 Park St. North, St.Petersburg, FL
Description: The Green Frog Festival is a weekend filled with music, storytelling and community celebration. Vendors line the paths and delicious food is readily available. This is a great time to purchase a Native American style flute as we will have several wonderful vendors here for the weekend. Our theme for this year is the environment and what we can do to help the earth, so we are planning activities with this in mind.
