10th Anniversary Celebration of the Weedon Island Center

Weedon Island Cultural and Natural History Center

Join the Friends of Weedon Island, Inc. (FOWI) on Saturday, February 16th to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Weedon Cultural and Natural History Center! The day will be filled with commemorative speakers, special guided hikes, arts and crafts, video presentations, and an indoor scavenger hunt. Light refreshments and cake will be served at noon.

Opening remarks will be held at 10:30.

Guided hikes will begin at 11:00 AM and 1:30 PM and will include a Native American hike, a Coastal Ecology hike, and a Family hike.

Arts and crafts, including fish printing* and Play-do pottery will be offered in the classroom. Three ecological and archaeological videos will be playing in the auditorium and a scavenger hunt will enhance visitor's experience in the exhibit area. Prizes will be awarded for those that complete the scavenger hunt.
*Bring a blank T-shirt or reusable bag to make a commemorative fish print.

R. LYNN WHITELAW was the founding director of the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art at St. Petersburg College and held that position for 13 years. In February 2011,Mr.Whitelaw stepped down as director to become the first established curator at the museum in order to concentrate his efforts before retiring on the rapidly expanding collection. Mr. Whitelaw is a graduate of Florida State University with both bachelor and master degrees in the History and Criticism of Art. He worked at Hillsborough Community College for 15 years in teaching and administrative positions and in 1990 became curator of education at the Tampa Museum of Art before taking the position at the Leepa-Rattner Museum of Art in 1998. He is curating an important exhibit of the Inness father and son that is expected to achieve national recognition.
