Florida Conversations Featuring Del Acosta

Time: 6:30 pm til 8:00 pm

Location: Tampa Bay History Center, 801 Old Water Street, Tampa, Florida 33602

Description: The Tampa Bay History Center welcomes Architectural Historian Del Acosta to the Florida Conversations Lecture Series on Thursday, Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m. Acosta will discuss his book, Images of America: Tampa’s Hyde Park.

A long-time Hyde Park resident, Acosta spent several years researching the historic neighborhood, combing through old photos, maps, and family histories. Dozens of images are included in his book, culled from archives at the Tampa Bay History Center and the Plant Museum. The largest share o
f photos in the book comes from the Burgert Brothers collection at the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library.
Acosta’s lecture at the History Center will cover the Victorian-era history of Hyde Park, which was developed in the mid-1880s by O.H. Platt, who named the area after his Hyde Park, Illinois home town. Acosta will sign copies of the book following his talk.
Florida Conversations is co-sponsored by the USF Libraries Florida Studies Center and is supported by WUSF Public Media. Florida Conversations features authors and presenters covering a variety of Florida topics from politics to fiction, history to environmental issues.
