Location: Oaklawn Cemetery. 606 E. Harrison St. (Morgan and Harrison Streets, Downtown Tampa
Description: Tampa Historical Society’s annual Gothic Graveyard Walk at Oaklawn (c.1850) is justifiably famous. Join “ghosts” from the City’s early history at this graveyard, where the wealthy and ne’er do well lie side by side. Learn why Oaklawn is significant in graveyard development in America, and experience a crosssection of the early town: pirates, veterans of seven wars, yellow fever victims, 13 mayors of the City, slaves, murderers, and Tampa bluebloods. Due to the popularity of the Gothic Graveyard Walk, it is scheduled on two dates this year.
All Tours are led by an actor-historian in period dress. Photography is encouraged. Sorry, but audio- or videotaping is not permitted. Tours are suitable for adults and children from age 8. Please wear sensible walking shoes (no flip flops or open sandals, due to uneven terrain and fire ants) and dress for the weather.
All historic cemetery tours are one hour, 4:00 – 5:00 pm on the scheduled date
