Celebrate Florida Archaeology 2011

Time: 10:00 am til 3:00 pm

Location: Weedon Island Preserve, 1800 Weedon Drive N.E., St. Petersburg

Description: Come enjoy the rich cultural heritage of Florida celebrated in March statewide. The theme of this year is "Native Plants and Native Peoples." Learn about the ancient Weedon Island pine dugout canoe and active archaeology projects in the Bay area. Author, I. Mac Perry, will speak at 1 P.M. on the lifeways of the Manasota Culture Indians who once lived at Weedon Island and the food plants they gathered and processed in a presentation titled, “Life and Lunch in a 9th Century Indian Village.” Join in activities which include hands-on archaeology, demonstrations on prehistoric plant uses, ethnobotany walks, and free 2011 Florida Archaeology Month posters. No registration required.
