Location: Bonnet House, Bonnet House Museum and Garden, Fort Lauderdale
Description: Before Bonnet House: An Archaeological Overview of the first 4000 years
Before Flagler’s Railroad, and before the Bartletts began to construct their massive edifice on the grounds of the present day Bonnet House, the vicinity of the grounds was home to the Tequesta. This culture occupied the area for 1500 years: from the third century BCE to the 18th century. This talk will highlight the archaeological sites both on the grounds of the Bonnet House itself and contextualize these sites within a larger framework of Tequesta settlement of South Florida
