Lecture by Juan Riera: Florida Landboom & Archaeology

Location: Deering Estate

Description: The Archaeology Society of Southern Florida is hosting an upcoming lecture. Head to the Deering Estate Auditorium in Miami to attend this informative and intriguing presentation.

This presentation will focus on the many different individuals and ideas for making Florida a tropical paradise and what effect this had on the archaeology of the state. The talk will discuss well known people such as Glenn Curtiss, the Mizner brothers, and Carl Fisher who greatly altered the environment and the archaeology of South Florida. Also examined will be lesser known characters such as Collier, Munroe, and Merrick.

Juan L. Riera is a native of South Florida and a graduate of the University of Florida (B.A. in History), Florida International University (M.A. in History and a graduate certificate in Cuban and Cuban-American Studies), and completed a doctoral program in Texas in Colonial Latin American History with Minors in Archaeology and Museum Studies.
