The Maritime History and Archaeology of South Florida

Location: Deering Estate Auditorium, 16701 S.W. 72nd Ave., Miami.
Description: This lecture will be an overview of the maritime history and archaeology of South Florida along with environmental influences: hurricanes, coral reefs, the Gulf Stream. Also discussed will be notable shipwrecks, treasure, and pirates. Dr. Juan L. Riera is an archaeologist and maritime historian with many years of experience in historical museums, college teaching, and archival research. He has worked at such places as Mystic Seaport Museum and The Florida Bureau of Archaeological Research.
