History Bike Gainesville VII: From Inglis to the Gulf

Time: 9:00 am til 12:00 pm

Location: Withlacoochee Bay Trail, off US 19/98, .5 mile south of Inglis, Florida

Description: History Bike Gainesville will be traveling to Citrus County for this ride. HBG VII will be reflecting on Earth Day 2017 by focusing our ride on one of the most controversial undertakings by U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Florida, The Cross-Florida Barge Canal. Renamed the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway, the canal is now considered one of the greatest achievements by environmental protectors in state history.
Guest speaker on this ride will be biologist Jamie Letendre of Florida Coastal Office.

The ride will start and end at the parking lot of the Withlacoochee Bay Trail, off US 19/98, .5 mile south of Inglis, Florida. The route is a 10 mile - round trip, ride along a paved trail adjacent to the canal. We will head west from the parking lot to the trail terminus at the Gulf of Mexico, stopping at overlooks to discuss the history and ecology of the area along canal.

Tour is scheduled for 3 hours. RIDE STARTS STARTS PROMPTLY AT 9, CHECK-IN STARTS AT 8:30AM. THERE WILL BE A CARPOOL MEET-UP AT PUBLIX AT WILLISTON RD. AND 34TH ST. @ 6:45 - 7AM THE MORNING OF THE RIDE. Please RSVP here on Facebook if you are planning to attend! $5 Suggested Donation please!
