Description: Join us for the next installment of FPAN's "Zoom into Archaeology" series: "A Liquid Landscape: The Discovery of a New Precontact Archaeological Site Complex Inundated ~3,000 Years Ago in Apalachee Bay, Florida" by University of Tennessee Chattanooga Assistant Professor Dr. Morgan Smith!

In 2017, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conversation Commission sent an e-mail to several submerged precontact archaeologists in Florida regarding the discovery of a possible site in Apalachee Bay, North Florida, now named "Clint's Scallop Hole" (8JE1004) Subsequent survey revealed the term "site" is misleading for the locality: 8JE1004 is just one component of an extensive submerged quarried landscape with numerous chert extraction sites covering an area on the order of several hundred meters squared.

This presentation is most appropriate for teens and adults, but is family-friendly.
