Zoom into Archaeology: Archaeology at Kingsley Plantation

Time: 3:30 pm til 4:30 pm

Location: Online; Central Daylight Time

Description: Join us for the next installment of FPAN's "Zoom into Archaeology" series: "Archaeology at Kingsley Plantation" by FPAN Regional Director Sarah Miller!

Recent excavations at Kingsley Plantation located outside of Jacksonville in northeast Florida have radically changed our understanding of what life was like for the enslaved people living there. This talk will focus on the geography, history, archaeology, and preservation of the site. We will also share what UF archaeologists found out about charms and religious activity among the enslaved Africans who lived there. Based on our "Project Archaeology: Investigating a Tabby Slave Cabin" curriculum, we will connect the importance of working with descendent communities to the role of stewards we all share today.

This presentation is most appropriate for teens and adults, but is family-friendly.
