Zoom into Archaeology: Heritage at Risk

Time: 3:30 pm til 4:30 pm

Location: Online; Central Daylight Time

Description: Join us for the next installment of FPAN's "Zoom into Archaeology" series: "Heritage at Risk" by FPAN Regional Director Barbara Clark!

Archaeology is not something that everyone considers when thinking about climate change, but it should be part of the conversation. Many of Florida's coastal sites are at risk due to storm surge, sea level rise and other factors dealing with climate change. Learn how archaeological sites will be impacted and how you can take action.

This presentation is most appropriate for teens and adults, but is family-friendly.

Location: Online w/ Tallahassee Museum; Central Daylight Time

Description: Join us for "Shipwrecks of Northwest Florida" with FPAN Public Archaeologist Nicole Grinnan! This presentation is a part of the Tallahassee Museum's "Museum Mixology: A Toast to History" lecture series!

The Panhandle of Florida is the site of hundreds of historic shipwrecks, the result of centuries of maritime commerce, conflict, and travel. Three of these wrecks are featured in this presentation: USS Massachusetts, the nation’s oldest battleship sunk for target practice off Pensacola; SS Tarpon, a merchant vessel famous for its weekly trips between Mobile and Panama City until it was lost in a gale; and Vamar, sunk at Port St Joe under mysterious circumstances during World War II.
