Florida Tales Through Ales: The Search for the Guerrero

Description: Join us for another Florida Tales Through Ales!

Guest speaker, Brenda Altmeier from the NOAA Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, will be speaking about the Search for the Guerrero

In 1827 an pirate slave ship, the Guerrero struck a reef near the Florida Keys trying to escape British authorities on the HMS Nimble. The Guerrero was participating in the illegal slave trade and was returning from Africa with over 500 enslaved individuals.
Archaeologists are searching for the wreck of the Guerrero and the site of the grounding of the HMS Nimble.

Join us for to learn about the fate of the Guerrero, the archaeological work, and the importance of finding these sites. As well as, a historically inspired ale!
