Our Unique Archaeology: Okeechobee

Description: Many residents and visitors to Florida are surprised to learn human history in our state goes back 15,000 years. This unique series rotates between IRSC campuses to examine the deep cultural history of Okeechobee, Indian River, Martin, and St. Lucie counties. Led by staff from the Florida Public Archaeology Network, each session starts with a description of the prehistoric and historic periods of Florida’s long history, goes into detail about county-specific sites (based on each campus location), and shares current research of what’s happening now in the region.
