Description: Exploring Subterranean Florida: The Past, Present and Future of Cave Archaeology in Florida
For thousands of years Native Americans have been exploring and utilizing caves. Caves have been used for shelter, burials, religious ceremonies and natural resources and have played an important role in the lives of early North Americans. In Florida, several of these caves have produced archaeological material dating back to the Paleoindian period. This presentation will examine cave archaeology in Florida: it's past, present and the future of this emerging branch of Florida archaeology.
