In Search of Shipyards: Boatbuilding on Maryland's Lower Eastern Shore

Time: 7:00 pm til 8:00 pm

Location: 435 Brevard Ave, Cocoa, FL 32922

Description: One hundred years ago the Chesapeake Bay was covered with the sails of oyster and fishing fleets. During the War of 1812, Chesapeake-built vessels were among some of the most infamous American privateers of the war. These vessels also carried tobacco to Europe and food to the West Indies. Today, there is little evidence of this once-thriving wooden shipbuilding industry and the thousands of people that it employed. This presentation describes the archaeology that identifies and documents shipyards and boatyards on Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore.

FPAN is hosting this event.
