This is a two-part session. The first portion occurs in the classroom, followed by a tour of the Old City Cemetery for the fieldwork portion at 3:00 p.m. Participants are encouraged to register for both sessions in order to complete the training.
Historical information about a community’s past isn’t just found in museums or archives, it is also recorded in stone at its cemeteries. Despite the importance of these sites many preservationists struggle to get a handle on the laws that protect them or the techniques to properly care for them. Learn about cemetery care and protection in this interactive session. Explore cemeteries as historical resources, laws that protect them, as well as best practices for headstone cleaning and care.
